This week we have watched two YouTubes. One about the Endeavour Replica and the other a tour of Jessica Watson's yacht.
Imagine you are sixteen and on a yacht by yourself sailing around the world. How would you feel? What do you think would be your biggest challenge?
Now imagine it is over 200 years ago and you on board the Endeavour with Captain Cook. What would be your biggest challenge?
Compare your challenges and explain how the 21st Century has changed the hardships that Captain Cook came across compared to Jessica Watson.

ReplyDeleteIf I was Jessica Watson I would be sometimes very scared of the ocean. It would make me feel better that I had a satellite phone to ring my parents. I also wouldn't feel so lonely because I can contact people if I wanted to. The yacht has a lot of safety gear so that would make me feel safer.
The crew on board the Endeavour worked very hard all the time. They wouldn't have fresh food and would have to eat stale bread. I would get homesick and would miss my family. Captain Cook went away for years where Jessica Watson was only away for nine months.
It would be a great adventure but I would be scared all alone.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Mary I would be very scared. I think I would rather be Jessica Watson than Captain Cook because there is more safety gear. Captain Cook was a very good captain because he was sailing in areas that other people have not been. That would be a great adventure.
